Velez-Malaga’s beautiful historic quarter are bringing two very different magical evenings to the area this summer, as the town hall launches “Noches de Verano” (“Summer Nights”), a pairs of events set on the terrace of the Centro Historico office. Councillor Juan Fernández Olmo announced the programme describing it as a project designed to fill the town’s summer nights with art.

Flamenco night opens the season

Saturday, July 11 kicks things off at 8:30pm with “Entre lo viejo y lo nuevo” (“Between the Old and the New”), a traditional flamenco performance featuring Laura Guerra’s dance company, local singer Antonio Jose Fernandez and guitarist Niño de la Aljaima. To start things off on a welcoming note,  guests receive a complimentary glass of Malaga wine on arrival.

Switching to Country music and a bounty hunter tale

A second very different evening follows on Saturday, August 8, opening a little later at 9pm. With a fresh round of local wine for arriving guests. Director Emilio Garcia Benitez, working with production team members Mari Carmen Alcantara and Andres Garcia, will present his new short film, a fictional western following a bounty hunter’s adventures, reportedly the first production of its kind ever filmed in Velez-Malaga using a variety of locations around the town. Country band Mojo Dojo then takes over the terrace for a theme fitting live performance beneath the stars.

Free entry for everyone

No tickets or bookings are required for either date, entry is completely free until capacity is reached. Organisers hope the series will attract both residents and visitors to the terrace of the Centro Historico office on Calle Las Tiendas, building on the success of last year’s popular “A los Pies de la Muralla” (At the Foot of the City Wall) event.
