One of the world’s most eye-catching superyachts has been turning heads off the southwest coast of Mallorca after arriving in Balearic waters for the height of the summer season.
The 110-metre Kaos, owned by billionaire Walmart heiress Nancy Walton Laurie, has been spotted cruising near Camp de Mar before later anchoring in Palma Bay, joining the growing collection of luxury vessels that visit the island each summer. Valued at around €263 million, the yacht has become one of the most talked-about arrivals on Mallorca’s coastline in recent days.
Its appearance adds yet another chapter to Mallorca’s reputation as one of the Mediterranean’s premier destinations for superyachts, attracting billionaires, celebrities and luxury travellers throughout the season.
Designed for ultimate luxury
Built by renowned Dutch shipyard Oceanco and launched in 2017, the vessel was originally commissioned as Jubilee for the late former Emir of Qatar before later being purchased by Nancy Walton Laurie and renamed Kaos. At the time of its launch, it was the largest yacht ever built in the Netherlands.
The yacht can accommodate up to 31 guests in 15 lavish cabins, supported by a crew of around 45. On board are facilities more commonly associated with a luxury resort than a private vessel, including a helipad with refuelling capability, swimming pool, spa, hammam, steam room, gym, cinema, beach club and even a panoramic lift connecting its decks. Twin MTU diesel engines give the yacht a top speed of around 19 knots and a cruising range of approximately 5,300 nautical miles.
Owner behind the yacht
Nancy Walton Laurie is the daughter of Bud Walton, co-founder of Walmart, and is among the wealthiest women in the United States. Alongside her business interests, she is also known for her philanthropic work, having donated millions of dollars to education and healthcare initiatives.
While Kaos is admired for its scale and luxury, it has also attracted controversy. In 2023, environmental activists targeted the yacht while it was docked in Ibiza, using washable paint during a protest highlighting wealth inequality and the environmental impact of mega-yachts.
For now, however, the vessel’s latest visit is providing another spectacular sight along Mallorca’s coastline, where luxury yachts have become an unmistakable feature of the island’s summer landscape.
