Magaluf is enjoying one of its busiest and most vibrant summers in recent years, with World Cup football drawing huge crowds and giving the resort’s bars, restaurants and entertainment venues a significant boost.

The biggest scenes have been at Magaluf Square, where more than 1,300 football fans gathered on Saturday alone to watch the latest matches. Organisers said the open-air venue reached full capacity, creating an electric atmosphere and forcing some supporters to be turned away after every table was filled.

With another round of fixtures approaching, visitors are being encouraged to book ahead or arrive early as demand continues to soar. The venue, which describes itself as Magaluf’s largest and only open-air football destination, screens every World Cup match live while offering full table service throughout, creating a festival-style experience for supporters.

Celebrity joins the crowds

The football buzz has even attracted celebrity attention.

Television personality Mark Wright, a long-time Mallorca fan and property owner on the island, was recently spotted at Magaluf Square watching one of the World Cup matches. The former The Only Way Is Essex star shared clips from the venue on Instagram, giving his millions of followers a glimpse of the lively atmosphere as hundreds of fans gathered to cheer on their teams. Wright is a familiar face in Mallorca and regularly spends time on the island with his wife, actress Michelle Keegan.

A welcome boost for local businesses

The scenes in Magaluf reflect a wider football tourism boom taking place across Spain.

According to industry report via MajorcaDailyBulletin, England supporters are drinking an estimated 190,000 litres of beer every day during the tournament, with Magaluf emerging as the country’s biggest hotspot for travelling fans. Beer sales in these popular holiday resorts are reportedly around 30 per cent higher than during a typical summer, highlighting the economic impact of the competition.

For Magaluf’s hospitality sector, the tournament has become much more than a sporting event. Bars and restaurants have reported busy terraces from afternoon until late into the evening, while entertainment venues are welcoming visitors who stay long after the final whistle, creating extra trade for nearby businesses. The lively atmosphere has also encouraged holidaymakers to spend more time in the resort, benefiting everything from restaurants and cafés to shops and taxi services.

More than just football

The World Cup has helped showcase another side of Magaluf, one centred on shared experiences, outdoor entertainment and a welcoming atmosphere for visitors from across Europe.

With England still in the tournament and more high-profile fixtures to come, businesses are hoping the momentum will continue for several more weeks. If last weekend is any indication, football is proving to be one of the biggest attractions of the summer, turning Magaluf into one of Mallorca’s liveliest places to watch the beautiful game while the local economy scores big.
