Pilar de la Horadada now offering a free local bus service. Credite: Ayuntamiento de la Pilar de la Horadada.
Whether you’re heading to the beach, exploring the local area or catching a flight, public transport offers a convenient alternative to driving this summer. From Pilar de la Horadada’s free seasonal shuttle to the direct airport connection between Torrevieja and Alicante-Elche Airport, these services are helping residents and visitors get around the southern Costa Blanca with ease.
Free summer shuttle returns to Pilar de la Horadada
Getting around Pilar de la Horadada without a car is once again easier this summer with the return of the municipality’s free local bus service.
Running until 31 August, the service connects the town centre with the area’s main residential neighbourhoods and beaches, giving residents and visitors an easy way to travel during the busy holiday season.
The route serves Mil Palmeras, Torre de la Horadada, El Mojón, Pilar de la Horadada and Pinar de Campoverde. Rather than operating as a circular service, the bus travels from one end of the route to the other before making the return journey, stopping at residential areas, shopping districts, parks and public facilities along the way.
The free service operates Monday to Friday only. There are no buses on Saturdays, Sundays or public holidays.
The first buses leave both Mil Palmeras and Pinar de Campoverde at 9:00 AM. The final departure from Pinar de Campoverde is at 7:30 PM, while the last bus leaves Mil Palmeras at 7:40 PM. Journey times are approximate and may vary depending on traffic conditions.
All buses on the route are fully accessible for passengers with reduced mobility.
Full timetables and details of all bus stops are available on the Pilar de la Horadada Town Hall website: pilardelahoradada.org.
Direct airport bus links Torrevieja and Alicante-Elche
Are you flying from Alicante-Elche Airport this summer? The L40 bus offers a direct daily service between the airport and Torrevieja, making it one of the easiest ways to travel between the two destinations.
Operated by Avanza, the route also serves La Mata, Guardamar del Segura, La Marina and El Altet, making it a convenient option for both residents and holidaymakers travelling along the southern Costa Blanca.
From Monday to Friday, the first bus leaves Torrevieja Bus Station at 6:30 AM, arriving at the airport at 7:20 AM. Services then run regularly throughout the day, with the final departure from Torrevieja at 8:30 PM.
Buses also operate throughout the day from Alicante-Elche Airport back to Torrevieja.
On Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, the timetable starts slightly later. The first bus leaves Torrevieja at 7:00 AM, with the last departure at 8:00 PM. The final service from the airport leaves at 9:00 PM.
Journey times vary between 30 and 60 minutes depending on traffic and the number of stops along the route.
Passengers travelling during the busy summer season are advised to allow extra time, particularly if catching a flight.
As with all public transport services, travellers should check the latest timetable before setting off, as departure times may change.
