Velez-Malaga expands heart emergency network with 70 new defibrillators

Velez-Malaga is backing up its public safety measures through a new contract for additional life-saving equipment. The town hall has launched the procurement process for a massive order of 70 semi-automatic external defibrillators under a renting model. This step follows the end of the previous 2019 agreement and directly addresses growing community needs for rapid response in cardiac emergencies.

Growth in coverage across town

Officials plan to raise the total number of devices from 60 to 70 units. Such development delivers a 16.7 per cent increase in overall protection across the area. People of Velez will gain better access to essential tools that improve survival rates during sudden cardiac arrests.

Financial framework remains stable

Comprehensive maintenance will form part of the package together with certified training sessions for council staff, including teachers and local police.

“Each defibrillator added creates another chance to respond quickly to cardiorespiratory arrest and raise survival odds,” one councillor said.

Twelve extra sites to receive protection

Installation targets twelve more council buildings and facilities. Cultural and administrative venues head the list with places such as the Lope de Vega Theatre, House of Music, Tourism Office at Casa Baco, Historic Centre Office, and Almayate Deputy Mayoralty.

Social and health centres also join the network. These include the Early Childhood Attention Centre, Drug Dependency Centre, Social Affairs offices in Velez-Malaga and Torre del Mar, the Urban Planning building, the Prevention Service, and Mercovelez.
