For Mel C, Mallorca will always hold a special place in her heart after the island became the setting for one of the biggest moments of her life.

The Spice Girls star has just revealed to Vogue that her husband, Australian model Chris Dingwall, proposed during a romantic summer break in Mallorca last year, with the surprise unfolding after an intimate evening together.

The couple, who have since married in England following an earlier legal ceremony in Australia, kept many details of their engagement private until now.

A candlelit surprise after dinner

Speaking about the proposal, Mel C explained that the couple had enjoyed a long tasting menu accompanied by wine at their luxury Mallorca hotel before returning to their suite.

What awaited her was completely unexpected.

She said the room had been transformed with candlelight, creating an intimate atmosphere before Dingwall got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. The singer described the proposal as beautiful and deeply personal, with nobody else around to interrupt the moment.

Although the hotel has not been publicly identified, the proposal adds another celebrity love story to Mallorca’s long list of famous visitors choosing the island for special occasions.

From a dating app to “I do”

Mel C and Dingwall first met through the dating app Raya in late 2023 before making their public debut as a couple the following year.

The singer has previously spoken about how their relationship changed her outlook on marriage. While she admitted she had never spent years dreaming about a wedding because she was so focused on her music career, meeting Dingwall altered those feelings.

The pair legally married in Australia, where Dingwall is from, before celebrating with family and friends in an intimate ceremony in Cumbria on July 18.

Spice Girls reunion at the wedding

The English celebration brought together several of Mel C’s Spice Girls bandmates, with Emma Bunton, Melanie Brown and Geri Halliwell-Horner attending the lakeside ceremony.

Victoria Beckham was unable to be there in person because of other commitments, but still played an important role by designing Mel C’s wedding gown. For the Australian ceremony, Beckham also lent her friend a dress from her own wardrobe after Mel C’s original outfit failed to fit in time.

While the wedding took place thousands of kilometres away, it was Mallorca that marked the beginning of the couple’s next chapter together… turning a summer escape on the island into a memory that will last a lifetime
