Malaga FC get their 2026/27 pre-season under way today, Saturday, July 25, but not at the ground originally advertised.

Why the venue changed from Algeciras

The friendly was first pencilled in for the Estadio Nuevo Mirador in Algeciras, home of Algeciras FC. In a last-minute switch, announced just over 24 hours before kick-off, Malaga FC confirmed the match would instead be played at the Banus Football Centre in Marbella, nicknamed “La Dama de Noche” and the regular home of Marbella FC. The club says the change was due to reasons beyond the control of either side, with kick-off staying at the same time.

If you’d already bought a ticket for Algeciras, online purchases are being refunded automatically, and anyone who bought in person at the box office can collect their refund from Monday, July 27. Do bear in mind that the old Algeciras ticket won’t get you through the gate at Banus, you’ll need a new one.

It’s the first pre-season test for Malaga since their promotion back to Primera Division, while Leicester, Premier League champions a decade ago, now find themselves in League One after relegation. Fans should get their first glimpse of new arrivals Calero, Juan Cruz and Dotor, the last of whom already spent last season on loan at the club.
