Police bust ‘Go Fast’ Mijas cocaine run after driver rams officers in Murcia chase

Spanish National Police have detained two men in Murcia and Mijas for alleged roles in a road-based cocaine trafficking network that operated across several points of Spain’s Mediterranean coast, including Malaga province. Officers recovered 10 kilograms of cocaine concealed under the passenger seats of the vehicle used by the suspects.

Investigation tracks main courier

Narcotics specialists at the Superior Police Headquarters in Murcia identified a large-scale drug trafficking structure active throughout the Spanish Levante area (Alicante, more or less). Enquiries focused on a prominent member tasked with moving consignments to different parts of the country. In June that same courier prepared a northbound trip from Spain, planning to return to Murcia once the load had been delivered. Surveillance confirmed the journey used the “Go Fast” method: narcotics hidden inside a car while a lead vehicle drove ahead to warn of police checks or other obstacles.

High-speed pursuit and seizure

Agents chose to stop the operation and seize the drugs. When they attempted to halt the vehicle, the driver deliberately rammed officers, trying to run them down and causing injuries of varying severity. A multi-kilometre chase at high speed followed until the car was intercepted near Santiago de la Ribera, a district of San Javier.

The companion, who is also under investigation, fled on foot. A thorough search of the vehicle uncovered nine packages stamped ‘Thug Life’ hidden under the rear seats. The packages contained high-purity cocaine weighing a total of 10.67 kilograms. Authorities charged the driver with drug trafficking, membership of a criminal organisation, assault on police officers and road-safety offences.

Second arrest in Mijas

Days later Civil Guard officers stopped the second suspect at a routine traffic control. Checks revealed an outstanding warrant issued on the day of the chase, leading to his detention in Mijas.

Network linked to Costa del Sol

Judicial and police enquiries established that both men formed part of an organised criminal group with substantial logistical resources. The network specialised in acquiring, preparing, distributing and selling narcotic substances across the Levante and Costa del Sol. Further arrests remain possible as the investigation continues.
