AFA Fuengirola-Mijas appeals for volunteers as Simply Thriving Soiree draws nearer, and tickets become scarcer

AFA Fuengirola-Mijas Costa has issued a clear call for more volunteers to bolster its team. Over 120 people receive daily support at the association, with around 30 per cent coming from Mijas. Staff say both regular help at the day centres and occasional event support make a real difference for families dealing with Alzheimer’s and other dementias.

Workshop helpers and event support wanted

Two kinds of volunteers are needed. Some lend a hand in the workshops run at the day centres, while others step up for fundraising events. Segovia, director of the Adolfo Suarez day centre, explained that workshop volunteers can manage with one morning a week or even every fortnight, provided the commitment stays consistent. Anyone over 18 with initiative to work alongside the therapists is welcome, and a bit of knowledge in maths or language proves especially useful.
Event helpers simply turn up when those occasions take place.

Charity shop needs extra cover from September

Help is also sought for the charity shop. Summer opening stays limited to mornings and is already covered, yet from September the shop will run both morning and afternoon sessions. Keen volunteers for those longer hours would be gratefully received.

Simply Thriving Late Summer Soiree backs AFA on 15 September

Funds and community energy remain vital. Simply Thriving’s popular Late Summer Soiree returns on Tuesday, September 15, at Miraflores Golf. Nathan Dean hosts, joined by Alexandra Avery, Laura Carter and Stelvis. Tickets cost €45 (€10 straight to AFA) and include welcome cava, a three-course meal, wine or beer, plus the luxury raffle. Doors open at 7pm with dinner from 7.30pm. Tickets sell via Nathan Dean on Tuesdays at Biddy Mulligan in La Cala de Mijas or Val Williams on Thursdays at the pool bar in Cerros del Aguila.
