What was supposed to be a day beside one of Italy’s most spectacular seaside spots took a startling turn when a tourist found herself scrambling up a rocky cliff above Lama Monachile in Polignano a Mare on Thursday August 6.

Footage of the incident shows the woman clinging to the rugged rock face as she attempts to climb back toward safer ground. With the Adriatic below and a steep wall of limestone around her, the extraordinary scene has left viewers wondering how she ended up in such a precarious position.

The circumstances that led the tourist onto the rocks were not immediately clear, although the possibility that she had ventured there while trying to take a photograph was mentioned by local media.

One wrong move could have changed everything

In the video, the tourist can be seen carefully searching for places to put her hands and feet as she works her way up the cliff.

The climb may look short on camera, but the steep, irregular rock surface makes the situation appear far from easy. A slip in the wrong place could have had serious consequences.

Lama Monachile is one of the most recognizable sights in Polignano a Mare, a picturesque town on Italy’s Adriatic coast. Its turquoise water, dramatic cliffs and postcard-perfect views draw huge crowds every summer.

But behind the stunning scenery lies a very real danger.

The stunning photo spot with a serious risk

The incident has sparked fresh attention online over the lengths some visitors go to for an unforgettable holiday photograph.

The desire to find a unique viewpoint can be tempting, especially at a location as spectacular as Polignano a Mare. Yet moving onto steep or difficult-to-access sections of a cliff can turn a few seconds of adventure into a potentially life-threatening situation.

The striking footage offers a powerful reminder: Italy’s famous coastal landscapes may look like the perfect playground for exploration, but the rocks and cliffs demand respect.

For this tourist, a picture-perfect day at one of Puglia’s most beautiful beaches suddenly became a heart-stopping climb back to safety.
