From local favourite to tourist treasure: Almoradí festival honoured

Almoradi has received a major boost after its Fair and Moors and Christians celebrations were officially recognised as a Festival of Provincial Tourist Interest by the Valencian Government. The prestigious distinction acknowledges the event’s rich history, strong community spirit and growing importance as one of the Vega Baja’s leading cultural celebrations.

Official recognition for Almoradi’s biggest festival

Almoradi’s Fair and Moors and Christians celebrations have officially been recognised as a Festival of Provincial Tourist Interest by the Valencian Government, giving the town another reason to celebrate.

The award recognises the history, traditions and popularity of an event that has become one of the highlights of the Vega Baja calendar. It combines Almoradi’s historic fair, first recorded in 1872, with the town’s Moors and Christians celebrations and devotion to its patron saints, San Abdon and San Senen.

The Generalitat approved the application after recognising the festival’s long history, strong community involvement and its ability to attract thousands of visitors every year.

Councillor for Festivals Jose Maria Pertusa said the recognition belongs to everyone in Almoradi and reflects the hard work of local festival groups, volunteers and residents who have helped the celebrations grow over the years.

A boost for tourism and local traditions

Mayor Maria Gomez said the new status will help promote Almoradi as a tourist and cultural destination while highlighting one of the town’s most important traditions.

The annual programme includes more than 40 events, from music and religious celebrations to the colourful Moors and Christians parades. Popular highlights include the Bando de la Huerta, the traditional offering of fruit and vegetables to the patron saints, the Embajada del Barril and the participation of 15 local Moors and Christians groups.

The new recognition is expected to raise the profile of the celebrations even further, attracting more visitors while helping preserve the traditions that have brought the community together for generations.
