Drivers regularly caught in queues on the N-332 between Torrevieja and Orihuela Costa could face a long wait for improvements, with Torrevieja’s mayor again calling for action on plans to widen the busy road.

More than 60,000 vehicles use the N-332 through Torrevieja every day, with traffic increasing considerably during holiday periods when thousands of additional residents and visitors are travelling around the Costa Blanca South.

Mayor Eduardo Dolon has renewed his demand for the Ministry of Transport to move ahead with the long-awaited widening project.

More than 100 requests for talks

According to Dolon, Torrevieja Town Hall has made more than 100 requests for a meeting with Transport Minister Oscar Puente or senior officials responsible for the scheme, but has yet to secure the talks it wants.

The mayor is continuing to push for progress on the project, which has been discussed for years without construction getting underway.

For motorists using the road regularly, the lack of a confirmed start date means the familiar congestion is likely to remain a problem for the foreseeable future.

More than 60,000 vehicles use the road each day

The mayor argues that widening the N-332 is essential for both road safety and mobility rather than simply being a solution to the familiar summer traffic jams.

More than 60,000 vehicles already travel along the route through Torrevieja each day, placing considerable pressure on the road even outside the busiest holiday periods.

During summer and other peak periods, traffic levels increase further as the population of the coastal area grows considerably.

The route is particularly important for Costa Blanca South residents, connecting Torrevieja with Orihuela Costa and other coastal communities.

Congestion can lead to lengthy delays for people travelling to work, beaches, shops and other destinations, as well as those making longer journeys along this part of the coast.

Drivers still waiting for widening work

Plans to improve the N-332 have been discussed for years, but drivers are still waiting to see construction begin.

The proposed widening has become one of the area’s most frequently discussed infrastructure projects as Torrevieja and surrounding coastal communities have continued to grow.

For residents who depend on the road for everyday journeys, improvements could help ease pressure on one of the busiest routes in the area while addressing concerns over mobility and safety.

Despite repeated calls from Torrevieja Town Hall for the project to move forward, there is currently no confirmed date for the widening work to start.
