Mazarron to host prestigious Hydrofly World Championship in September

The coastal municipality of Mazarron will become the hub for international powerboating as it prepares to host the Hydrofly World Championship at Puerto Deportivo from September 24 to 27. Organised by the Union Internationale Motonautique, alongside the Spanish and regional powerboating federations, this water-sporting spectacle will bring elite international riders to the region to showcase gravity-defying manoeuvres and athletic mastery over the water.

Four days of elite water sports on Mazarron’s iconic shoreline

The four-day international event combines high-stakes aquatic sports with vibrant coastline entertainment. The event will officially kick off on Thursday, September 24, with participant arrivals and a welcome gala scheduled for 9:00pm. The competition will officially start the next day, with administrative checks, free practice sessions, and initial classification rounds. Athletes will battle through qualifications and semifinals on Saturday, September 26, culminating in the finals on Sunday, September 27, beginning at 11:30am before the official award ceremony at 2:00pm.

Categories and prize money: Thousands of euros up for grabs

Competitors will race across four distinct categories comprising Pro, Pro Women, Junior for riders under seventeen, and Veterans for participants over the age of forty. The championship features a total prize purse exceeding €14,000 alongside official international medals. First-place winners in the Pro, Pro Women, and Veterans classes will receive €1,800, with €1,200 awarded for second place and €900 for third. The Junior division offers prizes of  €1,000, €800, and €500 for the top three placements, respectively.

Gravity-defying aerial acrobatics to thrill audiences

Judges will score each timed routine using strict criteria based on execution, technical skill, height, speed, innovation, and crowd engagement. Spectators watching from the marina can look forward to a dynamic display of intricate tricks including backflips, multi-rotation spins, dolphin dives, slaloms, and Supermans set to fast-paced music. With world-class talent and picturesque Mediterranean scenery, Mazarron is primed to deliver an outstanding sporting show for residents and visitors alike to enjoy.
