Budget hotel option to arrive in Cadiz, as work finally begins on new Travelodge

Travelodge has finally started construction of its first hotel in Cadiz, with a €13.5 million development now underway in the city’s Zona Franca. The project will create a 103-room hotel on the site of the former Iberica Aga premises, combining the existing protected building with a new six-storey structure.

New Travelodge Cadiz hotel will have 103 rooms

The new accommodation will hold 103 rooms, including 85 double rooms, 14 family rooms and four adapted rooms. Facilities will include private parking and Travelodge’s 85 Bar Cafe, providing food and drink services 24 hours a day. The hotel is being developed following an agreement between Travelodge and Verbian Street Iberica S.L. and will be the British chain’s first property in Cadiz. Travelodge currently has 13 hotels operating across Spain.

The current hotel project is smaller than an earlier version reported in 2023, when plans described a 150-room hotel at the same site. The latest Travelodge announcement confirms the development at 103 rooms. Location is in the Zona Franca, close to the popular La Victoria beach, Cadiz’s stadium and Cortadura railway station, which is approximately three minutes away.

Protected Cadiz building incorporated into hotel project

Part of the development is the use of the former Iberica Aga building, which is protected by the Junta de Andalucia. Rather than replacing the entire existing structure, the project incorporates it into the hotel with a new building planned behind it. The new section will rise to six storeys, with parking provided underground.

Travelodge will be the first hotel in the Zona Franca, an area undergoing a massive change. The Cadiz Free Zone’s upgrades for 2026-2030 include 28 projects and €23 million of investment.

The project was originally expected to enter construction in 2025, but work did not begin until 2026. Local reports have linked the delay to the completion of the neighbouring Incubazul headquarters. No opening date for the hotel has been announced as yet.
