Narrow streets of Mijas Pueblo to fill with runners for a 46-year old tradition

Hundreds of families and athletes are lacing up their running shoes for a thrilling morning of pounding feet and cheering spectators, on Sunday, August 30, when Mijas Pueblo hosts the 46th edition of the “Carrera de la Feria” or Mijas Feria run.

A fixture that keeps growing

Organisers have set this year’s capacity to 500 runners, showing the growth and demand for the popular annual event. Roughly a hundred places have already been claimed, according to sports councillor Mª Francisca Alarcon, who unveiled the details with Club de Atletismo de Mijas coaches Francisco Marin and Jose Manuel Cerezo. Categories run for all ages from little to big, so toddlers taking their first sprint and veterans with years of racing behind them will line up together.

Anyone hoping to secure a bib number must register through www.dorsalchip.es before 11:59pm on August 26. Fifty places have deliberately been held back for those who prefer to sign up in person on the day itself, giving latecomers a final chance to join in with the fun.

A route through the historic quarter

Marin confirmed that every category follows the same stunning route through streets of the old town, with Plaza Virgen de la Peña serving as both start and finish. Runners set off at 10am, tracing a course that has carried competitors through those same lanes since the race first began.

Trophies, medals and a prize draw

Category winners collect trophies at the finish, while younger participants each receive a medal simply for completing their distance. Organisers have also planned a prize draw open to every entrant once results are in, giving people an extra reason to linger once they’ve crossed the line. Alarcon described the race as an event that keeps bringing different generations of the same families back together, a tradition she said the town intends to protect as entries climb towards capacity.
