Man throws boiling pot at Mallorca flatmate after communal space row

It’s never easy co-habiting with someone. From arguments over cleaning and noise to disputes about who gets to use the communal spaces, sharing a home can test even the strongest relationships.

But one flatmate dispute in Mallorca went far beyond an everyday household row.

A 25-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly throwing a pot of boiling liquid at his 33-year-old flatmate during an argument over the use of a communal area, leaving the victim with burns and a head wound requiring six stitches.

The confrontation reportedly escalated further when the younger man allegedly grabbed a knife and threatened to kill his housemate.

The incident took place in Peguera, in the municipality of Calvià, and has led to a Guardia Civil investigation.

Boiling pot thrown during argument

According to the Guardia Civil, the confrontation erupted inside the shared property after tensions flared over the use of the home’s common spaces.

Investigators say the 25-year-old suspect grabbed a pot that had been heating on the stove and hurled it at his 33-year-old flatmate. The impact caused burns and a deep head wound, leaving the victim bleeding heavily.

Emergency services were called to the scene and the injured man was taken to hospital by ambulance. Doctors treated his burns and closed the head injury with six stitches.

Knife threat after attack

Police say the violence did not end there.

Following the alleged assault, the suspect is accused of picking up a knife and threatening to kill his flatmate, forcing the victim to fear for his life before he was able to report the incident to authorities.

The Guardia Civil launched an investigation after receiving the complaint and worked to identify the alleged attacker, who had reportedly left the area following the incident.

Officers from the Calvià Guardia Civil eventually located and arrested the 25-year-old last week. He has since been placed at the disposal of the judicial authorities and is under investigation on suspicion of serious assault and making death threats.

Shared homes can become flashpoints

Although disputes between housemates are not uncommon, police say disagreements should never escalate into violence.

Arguments over cleaning, noise, shared facilities or household responsibilities are among the most frequent causes of conflict in shared accommodation. However, authorities stress that anyone who feels threatened or experiences violence should contact the emergency services immediately rather than attempting to resolve the situation themselves.

The victim in this case is continuing to recover from his injuries, while the investigation remains ongoing as the courts determine the next steps.

The incident has shocked residents in the normally peaceful resort of Peguera, a popular destination on Mallorca’s southwest coast that is better known for its beaches and tourism than serious violent crime.

The case serves as a stark reminder of how quickly everyday disagreements can spiral into dangerous situations when tempers boil over, with one man ending up in hospital and another now facing serious criminal allegations.
