Benahavis unveils exciting new golf concept to perfect your putt

Here comes another reason for golf lovers to love the Costa del Sol as Benahavis moves forward with plans for an innovative 18-hole putting green facility near the Guadalmina river valley.

Local authorities gave initial approval to the project in July 2026, with the town hall publishing its official notice in August. A month-long public consultation period followed, giving residents and interested parties the chance to raise objections or suggestions before construction gets the green light.

What makes this golf project different

Rather than a traditional 18-hole course sprawling across vast acreage, this scheme has been designed as something far more compact and specialised. Occupying a single plot of 13,852 square metres in the Las Angosturas area, close to the Marbella boundary, the facility focuses entirely on short-game practice and putting skills.

Each green will have its own shape and layout, deliberately varied so players can practise reading slopes, judging distances and controlling the speed of their putts, the kind of skills that make or break a scorecard. Every surface will be fully synthetic, a choice tied directly to lower water and land demands than a conventional course requires. Natural vegetation will play a mostly decorative role, watered via drip irrigation. Heavy earthworks won’t be needed, according to the plans, with gentle contouring and small raised mounds used instead to shape the land without disturbing it too much.

Sitting on land classed as rustic, or non-developable, the project needed special planning permission rather than a standard licence. Documentation makes a point of stating the scheme has no intention of urbanising the area or creating anything resembling a residential settlement, an important distinction, since building on this type of protected countryside land is normally heavily restricted.

Building plans and construction timeline

Construction plans include a social and services building covering 865.26 square metres, plus a limited parking area and access control point. Remaining space on the plot will house the practice course, walking paths and landscaped zones.

Work is expected to run in one continuous phase, broken into three stages: preparing and marking out the site, shaping the land and laying the greens, then finishing the clubhouse and softening the surroundings with landscaping. Total initial investment sits at approximately €1.23 million, with completion expected within six to nine months once permits come through, subject to weather conditions.
