Old-school motors and classic cars take to the streets of Torremolinos as the ‘Amigos de los Clasicos’ rally returns

Anyone who loves the smell of petrol, the roar of engines and fancies a proper look at some beautifully kept old motors won’t want to miss this returning favourite in Torremolinos this weekend.

The return of the rally

Saturday, September 19 sees the 31st running of the Amigos de los Clasicos rally, a firm favourite for three decades now. Each year it grows and grows, so what started as a gathering of around 70 cars back in 2022 had expanded to roughly 120 by last year’s event, and organisers are hoping for another strong turnout this time round. Entrants flood in from all across Andalucía, plus further afield in Murcia, Alicante, Madrid and even Salamanca.

Anyone wanting to catch the cars up close should head to Plaza Blas Infante, just outside the town hall, from 9.30am. That’s when drivers gather and register, giving real enthusiasts a good hour or so to wander among the vehicles before the convoy pulls away at 10.45am.

Take note of the route

Drivers will take their cars along Rafael Quintana Rosado street and round the roundabout by the old fire station, then onto the ring road heading towards Malaga before turning onto Avenida de La Riviera. From there, the route hugs the coast along the promenades at El Bajondillo and La Carihuela, handy to know if you’re planning a beach walk that morning, before cutting back through the centre and finishing up at the fairground.

You’ve got to have an old model to enter

Every car entered has to be at least 35 years old, so expect genuine survivors rather than modern reproductions. Organisers typically hand out a handful of awards on the day, recognising things like the entrant who’s travelled furthest, the oldest and youngest drivers taking part, and the best-preserved or restored vehicle. In previous years, a special mention has also gone to a small group of regulars who’ve turned up for every single edition since it began.
