Estepona’s free British Day hits the Paseo with five live acts

Brits and locals will get a huge celebration on Estepona’s Paseo Maritimo this Saturday, September 26, when Dia Britanico takes over the seafront by the Monumento a la Peseta from 5pm to 10pm.

Estepona Town Hall and the Foreign Residents Association of Estepona (AREME) are putting on a party under the Sharing Cultures programme, and entry is free to celebrate the numbers of Brits resident in the town.

Live entertainment from 5pm to 9pm

Sunset Flyers open at 5pm. Dona Julia Line Dancers follow at 6pm. Del Sol Singers and Karen Danzig take the stage at 7pm. Irish folk group Band O’Leros play at 8pm, and Gary Fearon wraps things up at 9pm. Expect dancing shoes, a few singalongs and that familiar Costa mix of UK and Irish tunes.

Food stalls, market tables and a slice of cake and a cuppa

Market and food stalls will sit along the promenade with British plates, homemade cakes and the obligatory cuppa. Clubs and charities that do the heavy lifting for English-speaking residents usually pitch in with information tables, so it is a handy night to put a face to a name.

More than 4,500 British nationals are on Estepona’s padron, about six per cent of the town, and roughly one in five hotel guests comes from the UK. AREME’s 20th anniversary coverage and last year’s ambassador visit give a sense of how rooted that community now is. Foreign Residents’ Day in April showed the same idea on a bigger scale.
