Benitatxell’s long-awaited road bypass gets major €5m boost

The long-awaited plan to build a bypass around the CV-740 in Benitatxell has taken a major step forward, with Alicante Provincial Council confirming it will finance and carry out the first phase of the project.

The infrastructure is intended to ease traffic congestion and improve road safety on a route that has become increasingly busy as the Marina Alta continues to grow.

€5 million first phase

Provincial president Toni Pérez confirmed the commitment during a radio interview with Dénia FM, saying that the municipality and drivers using the road could be reassured that the project would go ahead.

The first section of the planned bypass is expected to cost around €5 million.

That figure represents approximately a quarter of the Provincial Council’s annual road budget, highlighting the scale of the proposed infrastructure.

The initial phase would run from the beginning of the planned route to roughly halfway along the overall section. The challenging terrain in the area is one of the factors contributing to the project’s cost.

Traffic and safety at the heart of plans

The proposed bypass is designed to take traffic away from the existing route through Benitatxell, addressing long-standing concerns over congestion, movement and road safety.

The Provincial Council has described the road network around the municipality and wider Marina Alta as particularly complex, with substantial traffic moving between built-up areas.

For local residents, the announcement represents a significant development in a project that has been pursued by the municipality for years.

Mayor Miguel Ángel García welcomed the commitment, describing it as an important step for both Benitatxell and the wider comarca.

What happens next?

Despite the latest announcement, construction is not about to begin immediately.

The council must first complete the execution project, while the necessary land acquisition and expropriation procedures must also be carried out.

The Town Hall is already using its own funds to finance the basic and execution projects in an attempt to move the process forward as quickly as possible.

The municipality is also hoping the investment can be incorporated into the Provincial Council’s 2027-2028 budget period, with the first phase potentially classified as a financially sustainable investment.

Once the outstanding technical and administrative procedures have been completed, the project will be ready for the provincial administration to move towards construction.

For Benitatxell and drivers who regularly use the CV-740, the latest commitment marks a significant change for a road project that has remained a long-standing local priority.
