Foreign renters now dominate the rental market in two Costa Blanca hotspots

International renters are flocking to Calpe and Moraira, with overseas demand now making up more than half of all rental searches

The Costa Blanca continues to prove its global appeal, with two Marina Alta towns now attracting more international rental interest than Spanish demand.

New figures reveal just how popular Calpe and Moraira have become with people from overseas looking to rent a home in the sun.

A truly international market

According to data from property portal Idealista, international searches accounted for 53 per cent of rental demand in Calpe during the first quarter of 2026.

Moraira was close behind, with overseas demand representing 52 per cent of all rental searches.

In both destinations, that means more than half of the people looking for rental properties were based outside Spain.

The figures place Calpe and Moraira among a small group of Spanish destinations where international interest has reached this level.

Only Mallorca’s Andratx recorded a higher proportion, at 60 per cent. Calpe’s 53 per cent was followed by Moraira and Mallorca’s Calvià, both at 52 per cent, while Nerja and Mogán also recorded international demand of at least 50 per cent.

Visitors from across Europe

The appeal of the Marina Alta is not coming from one single overseas market either.

Moraira is particularly popular with Dutch house hunters, while British, Swiss and Austrian renters are also among those showing strong interest.

The figures highlight the international character that has long been part of life along the northern Costa Blanca.

For overseas residents searching for a rental home, the area offers a combination of Mediterranean weather, beaches, restaurants, outdoor living and established international communities.

Costa Blanca continues to shine

The trend extends well beyond Calpe and Moraira.

Alicante province recorded 26 per cent international rental demand, putting it alongside the Balearic Islands for the highest proportion among Spain’s provinces in the Idealista analysis.

The Costa del Sol and Canary Islands are also attracting substantial interest from overseas renters.

The figures underline the continued appeal of Spain’s Mediterranean lifestyle, particularly among people looking for more than a traditional holiday.

For Calpe and Moraira, the latest numbers offer another snapshot of their growing international profile.

From Dutch families and British residents to visitors from across Europe, the search for a home on the Costa Blanca is becoming increasingly global.

And with more than half of rental searches in both towns now coming from abroad, Calpe and Moraira are clearly places where the rest of Europe wants to live, not just visit.
