60 cars to race across Malaga as Rallye Gibralfaro eyes Spain championship

Rincon de la Victoria will become the starting point for one of Malaga province’s biggest motorsport events this weekend when the 35th Rallye Gibralfaro takes place on Saturday, September 26, and Sunday, September 27.

Sixty cars are entered for the two-day competition, with 40 taking part in the speed category and another 20 competing in regularity. Drivers and teams from across Andalucia will tackle roads covering nine municipalities in the province.

Rallye Gibralfaro targets Spain championship place

This year’s event carries extra importance because organisers have applied for a pre-inspection for the 2027 Spanish Rally Championship. A Real Federacion Española de Automovilismo (RFEDA) observer will attend the rally to assess the event. The federation’s 2026 calendar already lists the Rallye Gibralfaro as a “Preinspección CERA” event, confirming its role in the assessment process.

Juanma Gomez, president of Escuderia Gibralfaro, said the 2026 edition has special importance because of the application for the national championship. The event is organised by Escuderia Gibralfaro with support from Rincon de la Victoria Town Hall and Diputacion de Malaga.

Nine Malaga towns on the rally route

Competitors will travel through Rincon de la Victoria, Casabermeja, Moclinejo, Totalan, Comares, Benamargosa, Cutar, Almachar and El Borge. Saturday’s programme starts with technical checks from 10.30am, followed by the official start ceremony at 1.30pm in Plaza de la Constitucion. The competitive action gets underway at 4pm, with stages in Casabermeja and Moclinejo later in the day. Sunday starts at 8am, with stages through Totalan, Comares, Benamargosa and Cutar before the cars return to Rincon de la Victoria.

The first finish is scheduled for 1.15pm, followed by the trophy presentation at 1.45pm in Plaza de la Constitucion.

Motorsport fans can check the official Rallye Gibralfaro spectator information before travelling, including stage locations, road closures, timings and designated spectator areas. Anyone planning to attend should follow the organisers’ safety instructions and only watch from authorised areas.

The event comes during a busy weekend for Rincon de la Victoria, with the town also hosting its World Tourism Day weekend from September 25 to 27, including other motor-related activities.
