Five Orihuela Costa beaches awarded Qualitur flags for quality and safety

Five Orihuela Costa beaches have received Qualitur flags recognising standards in quality, safety, accessibility and environmental management.

La Glea, Mil Palmeras, Cala Estaca, Punta Prima and Cala Capitan were among 206 beaches across 40 municipalities recognised by the Valencian Government this year, providing residents and visitors with a visible indication of the standards achieved along the coastline.

Five local beaches receive Qualitur recognition

The Qualitur scheme assesses the way beaches and their services are managed across a range of areas.

These include facilities available to visitors, safety measures, accessibility and environmental management, with participating beaches required to meet the standards established by the certification programme.

For residents and holidaymakers, the flags provide an easily recognisable indication that a beach has successfully met those requirements.

Orihuela’s Coast councillor Manuel Mestre collected the five flags during an awards ceremony held in Burriana.

Across the Valencian Community, 206 beaches in 40 municipalities received recognition this year.

Alicante Province accounted for 92 of the beaches recognised, with 43 quality certificates awarded.

Awards recognise year-round work on Orihuela Costa

Mestre said the five Qualitur flags reflected the work carried out throughout the year by municipal teams responsible for Orihuela Costa’s beaches.

That work covers cleaning and maintenance as well as safety measures and the different services provided along the coastline.

He stressed that maintaining the certification requires continued attention rather than simply ensuring beaches meet the required standards during the busiest summer months.

This year-round approach is particularly relevant in Orihuela Costa, where beaches are regularly used outside the traditional summer holiday season by the area’s large resident population.

Town Hall plans further coastal improvements

Orihuela Town Hall said it intends to continue improving beach facilities and coordination between the different municipal services responsible for managing the coastline.

The five Qualitur awards provide recognition for current standards while also requiring those standards to be maintained in the future.

For Orihuela Costa’s large international population, as well as the many visitors arriving throughout the year, the flags also provide information about the management and services available at some of the area’s most frequently used beaches.

La Glea, Mil Palmeras, Cala Estaca, Punta Prima and Cala Capitan will now display the Qualitur recognition following this year’s awards.
