Seventeen high-flying zip-liners raise close to €6,000 for ADSG for dementia care in Costa del Sol

Seventeen brave souls hurtled down Andalucia’s longest zip line this weekend to raise cash for Alzheimer’s and dementia support across the Costa del Sol and inland Malaga Province. ADSG’s 2026 challenge at Sunview Park Adventure, just outside Alhaurin de la Torre, turned nerves into laughter and sponsorship into real help for families living with memory loss.

Organiser Pat Jay spent months lining up the day, then watched from the ground after a broken ankle kept her off the wire. She said, “Sad that I couldn’t do it because of my broken ankle but that didn’t stop me cheering the 17 people who joined in to raise funds for the ADSG. We are hoping for around €6,000 in sponsorship money so a brilliant day all round.”

Of course, for anyone who has undertaken this flight over the Malaga countryside, the most terrifying part is not necessarily the zip-line itself, but the bouncy journey back to base camp in the Land Rover.

Why the money is so important

ADSG runs free meetings, advice and practical help for carers and people living with Alzheimer’s and dementia. Support stretches from the coast into inland towns, with regular gatherings where families swap honest stories and get guidance when memory problems first appear. Cash from Saturday’s ride keeps that work going. But it’s not just about advice. It’s about the love and fun of being with others in the community who have, or are still going through the same difficulties.

Sheila Kearns, Dee Feaviour, Cheryl and another collector gathered donations on the day. “Thank you to everyone who kindly sponsored our Zip Wire Charity Event today, to help us raise money for Alzheimer’s & Dementia, your donations were very much appreciated,” Sheila said. “Collected by Sheila Kearns, Dee Feaviour, Cheryl and myself, the grand total hasn’t been confirmed yet, but the 4 of us raised €1,028.” Rumour has it Sheila may have paid twice — once for herself and once for her camel.

Already booking 2027?

Joanne Paterson finished the course and found people already asking about next year. “And that’s a rap! Zip Line completed for 2026 and people already want to sign up for next years fundraiser! Thank you everyone who took part and supported ADSG. Apparently I’m doing it next year so watch this space!”

Sunview Park’s 1,350-metre double zip line is high above the Guadalhorce valley and is a proper Costa day out as well as a fundraiser.
