A 51-year-old worker has been seriously injured after becoming trapped in the rollers of a circular cutting machine at an industrial warehouse in Pinto, south of Madrid.

The workplace accident happened at around 12.30pm on Friday, October 2, at a warehouse on Calle Carpinteros, where the man became trapped by the machinery while working.

Emergency services were called to the scene after the incident, with firefighters from the Community of Madrid attending to free the injured worker.

Worker trapped by hands, shoulder and chest

According to the emergency services, the man was trapped by the machine in several areas of his upper body.

Luis Enrique Crespo, a supervisor with the Community of Madrid Fire Service, said firefighters found the worker trapped by his hands, shoulder and chest when they arrived.

Specialist firefighters carried out the rescue operation, carefully freeing the man from the machinery.

The incident required a coordinated response from several emergency services, highlighting the potentially serious consequences of accidents involving industrial equipment.

The worker was then assessed at the scene by medical teams from SUMMA 112.

Serious injuries to both hands

Emergency medical staff described the injuries to the man’s hands as being in a “catastrophic” condition.

He was subsequently taken to Madrid’s Hospital La Paz with a serious prognosis.

Carlos Rubio, a SUMMA 112 duty officer, said the patient was assessed after firefighters had freed him from the machine and was then transported to hospital for further treatment.

The full extent of his injuries has not been publicly detailed, and there was no immediate information about his condition following his admission to hospital.

The emergency operation involved firefighters, SUMMA 112, Pinto Local Police and Civil Protection personnel.

Guardia Civil investigating accident

The Guardia Civil has opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the workplace accident.

The investigation is expected to establish how the worker became trapped in the circular cutting machine and whether any safety procedures or workplace conditions played a role in the incident.

Industrial machinery can present significant risks to workers, particularly when moving parts are involved, making safety measures and appropriate operating procedures an important part of workplace protection.

The accident took place in Pinto, a municipality in the Community of Madrid, on Friday afternoon.

Authorities have not released further details about the company operating from the warehouse or the circumstances immediately before the worker became trapped.

The case remains under investigation as the injured man receives treatment at Hospital La Paz.
