More than 2,500 runners could head to Motril on Sunday, October 18, for the 42nd Media Maraton Ciudad de Motril, which is expected to set a new participation record.
Motril race brings 21K and 10K routes
Runners can choose between the 21-kilometre half marathon and a 10K race, with both starting at 10am from Paseo de las Explanadas. The finish will be inside Motril Port, giving competitors a different end point from previous editions.
This year’s 21K course has been officially approved adjudicated by the Spanish Royal Athletics Federation (RFEA), adding extra interest for athletes chasing a recognised time.
A new section follows the Senda Litoral (coastal walkway), taking runners through one of the Costa Tropical’s best-known coastal areas. Much of the route is flat, making it attractive to recreational runners as well as athletes looking to improve their personal bests.
Race also hosts Andalucian championship
Motril will also host the 2026 Andalusian Half Marathon Championship, while the event forms part of the Granada Provincial Council’s Gran Premio de Fondo series. Organisers say the race is expected to attract runners from across Andalucia, with the RFEA-approved course potentially encouraging some athletes to target fast times. Race director Rafael Jaramillo said the course could appeal to athletes looking to improve their marks, noting that current Andalucian records are around 1:01 for men and 1:09 for women.
Entries still open for Motril runners
Entry costs €10 for either distance, with registrations open until 1pm on Tuesday, October 13, unless the organisers reach the limit sooner. The runner’s pack includes a 2026 race shirt, with separate designs for the 21K and 10K for this year’s race in October, while finishers will receive a commemorative medal.
Motril Port will provide parking and shuttle buses to take runners from the port area to the starting line. Anyone wanting to take part can register through the official Media Maraton Ciudad de Motril website before entries close.
