Volunteers are being sought to strengthen Orihuela’s Civil Protection team, which currently has around 10 particularly active members available to support emergencies and public events across the municipality.
The recruitment campaign is open until October 15, with people from a wide range of backgrounds encouraged to apply. No specialist experience is required and training will be provided for successful applicants.
Volunteers needed across Orihuela
Applications to join Civil Protection can be submitted through Orihuela Town Hall’s electronic office until October 15.
People aged between 16 and 18 can apply with permission from a parent or guardian, while adults interested in supporting their community are also encouraged to come forward.
The campaign aims to increase the number of trained volunteers available across Orihuela’s large municipal area.
People with medical, technological or emergency-related knowledge are particularly welcome, although previous experience in these fields is not a requirement.
Applicants will undergo an interview to assess their suitability and availability, together with the required psychotechnical assessment, before beginning as trainee volunteers.
Training will then help prepare new recruits for the different situations they could encounter while supporting Civil Protection operations.
Team supports emergencies and major events
Civil Protection volunteers can be called upon to provide assistance during severe weather, fires and other emergency situations.
Their role also extends to major public events throughout the municipality, where volunteers provide additional support to help activities run safely.
These include Easter events, Moors and Christians celebrations and sporting fixtures, as well as activities taking place on Orihuela Costa.
With the municipality covering a large geographical area, increasing volunteer numbers will provide additional support when Civil Protection resources are required.
Information day planned at La Glorieta
Anyone considering joining can learn more at a public information day at La Glorieta in Orihuela on Saturday, October 3.
The event will run from 9:00 AM until 2:00 PM, with existing volunteers available to explain their work and the training involved.
Civil Protection vehicles, communications equipment and other resources will also be on display, giving potential recruits a closer look at the equipment used by the team.
Visitors will be able to ask questions about volunteering before deciding whether to apply.
Applications for the recruitment campaign remain open until October 15 through Orihuela Town Hall’s electronic office.
