Nerja is set for a major parking boost after the town’s government approved the preliminary project for a new 847-space car park beside the health centre.
The decision clears another key stage for the development on Avenida de Pescia, giving residents and visitors a place to leave their cars.
847 new parking spaces for Nerja
Four floors will provide 25,406 square metres of space, with 806 standard parking bays, 22 reserved for people with reduced mobility and 20 equipped for electric vehicles.
A transport interchange is planned on the roof, with the Junta de Andalucia expected to develop that part of the project.
Mayor Jose Alberto Armijo said the car park would help tackle one of Nerja’s main needs while reducing traffic driving around town looking for somewhere to park.
New car park will transform access
Nerja’s parking pressure is particularly noticeable during busy periods, when residents and visitors compete for spaces close to the centre, beaches and other popular areas.
Extra capacity will be useful around the health centre, expected to serve about 25,000 people from Nerja and nearby Frigiliana.
A new road linking the Glorieta de los Profesionales de la Sanidad with Avenida de Pescia is also being built, improving access to this part of town.
€27.6 million Nerja parking project
The project carries an estimated investment of €27.61 million, with the car park planned under a concession model covering construction and operation.
Work will begin to take place the contracting process, but the project itself is now firmly approved and moving forward.
Previous planning documents considered 550 spaces for general use, 180 resident permits and 70 spaces linked to health centre staff. Final arrangements and prices will be established through the future contract.
Nerja Town Hall says the new facility will increase parking capacity and help cut traffic, giving one of the Axarquia’s busiest tourist towns a practical improvement.
