More than 100 residents and visitors braved the rain to skate, stretch and play beach volleyball along Vera’s seafront last weekend. Now the free programme behind it is back for a fourth season, and this time it’s sticking around right through to June.
Rain didn’t keep more than 100 people away
Residents and visitors swapped the sofa for the seafront on Saturday October 3 and Sunday October 4, as Vera opened the 2026/27 season of its Tus Playas de Invierno (Your Winter Beaches) programme. Grey skies and showers hung over part of the weekend, though more than 100 people still turned up to take part, according to Vera Town Hall.
Skaters took over Plaza de la Pérgola, while dance and pilates sessions ran in the Parque de Ocio Charca del Gato (the town’s leisure park). There was yoga at the Punto Accesible (the accessible beach point) on Playa de Las Marinas and beach volleyball at Puerto Rey, with City Promotion councillor Carolina Pérez Gallardo on hand to welcome everyone and hand out Tus Playas de Invierno merchandise.
Self-defence joins the line-up this Sunday
Anyone who missed the opening weekend didn’t have to wait long, with the second weekend of sessions getting under way on the morning of Saturday, October 10. Yoga ran from 10am to 11.30am at the Punto Accesible on Playa de Las Marinas, by Plaza de la Pérgola, while beach volleyball took place on Playa Puerto Rey, opposite Marau, until 1pm.
However, there’s still time to join in this weekend on Sunday, October 11, as dance and pilates are on at the Parque de Ocio Charca del Gato from 11am to 1pm.
At the same time, a self-defence workshop runs back at the Punto Accesible on Playa de Las Marinas. It’s one of two new additions this season, alongside tai chi, so it’s a good chance to try something different before the weekend’s out.
The season now stretches into June
This is the fourth year of the programme, which the council said has grown with every edition. It now runs from October through to June, longer than in previous years.
Alongside the newcomers, the familiar favourites are back, including yoga, pilates, dance, zumba, beach volleyball, skating and functional training. Guided walks on the coast’s wildlife and plants and outdoor painting workshops are on the list too.
Mayor Alfonso García Ramos said the project shows Vera’s beaches have plenty to offer beyond the summer, while Pérez Gallardo said the aim is to give families good reasons to head to the coast at weekends. It’s also a gentle nudge for anyone who tends to steer clear of the beaches until the following summer, and a welcome boost for the bars, restaurants and holiday lets that tend to go quiet once the summer crowds leave.
Nothing to pay and no need to sign up
All the activities are free and there’s no need to register beforehand, so residents and visitors can just turn up on the day.
However, the plan changes from week to week, with times and locations for the following weekend posted on the council’s channels and Destino Vera’s social media pages. So it’s worth checking there before heading down, especially if the weather looks unsettled.
