A memorable day of community spirit is coming to the Costa del Sol on Saturday, October 17, when The Royal British Legion Spain South launches its annual Poppy Appeal with a full schedule of commemorative and social activities in La Cala de Mijas.

Afternoon procession and commemoration service

Daytime proceedings all begin with an official parade through the town streets.  Marchers, including veterans, scout groups, and a marching band, will be joined by vintage cars, all meeting at 1:45pm at Butibamba park. From there, the procession will move through the centre toward the main square.

At 2:30pm, attendees will gather near the watchtower for a short act of commemoration. Local supporters will stand side by side to observe a brief period of remembrance, acknowledging the service and sacrifices of past and present military members.

Everyone is invited to meet at the earlier time to join the full parade leaving from the park, or if you prefer, you can go direct to the tower to be part of the service only.

Evening launch party at Oasis Centre

Celebrations continue into the evening at the Oasis Centre (Age Care) in La Cala de Mijas. Doors open at 6pm for the official Poppy Appeal Launch Party. Tickets cost €30 per person, covering a delicious three-course meal, an alcoholic drink, and live musical entertainment. Performances for the dinner include musical acts by the talented ‘A Touch of Class’ and local favourite vocalist Andee Birkett.

Booking and contact information

Reservations for the evening meal are managed directly by local organiser Andy.
