Soon an unused corner of a much-loved park will be filled with story time, turning pages and students deep in revision. This is the plan for San Pedro’s old amphitheatre, and builders are already on site.
New library for San Pedro Alcantara due in spring 2027
Marbella Town Hall is rehabilitating the old amphitheatre in Jorge Lorenzo Tejada park, ground that has so far sat unused for some time. The result will be a public library, a large study area and a venue for cultural and official events, with construction due to finish in spring 2027.
Mayor Angeles Muñoz visited the works with Javier Garcia, deputy mayor for San Pedro. She said the site needed a major overhaul and that the investment will give residents a very important service. She added that work is going to plan, with furnishing under way in parallel so the doors can open soon after the builders leave.
What will go on each of the three floors
Built on a plot of roughly 7,500 square metres, the building will have three storeys of between 700 and 800 square metres each. Officials describe it as modern and accessible, designed for all ages.
Lower floor: a bright, open study area with a covered porch and direct access.
Middle floor: the library, with its own street entrance and separate areas for adults and children. Younger readers will get storytelling sessions and reading activities.
Top floor: a flexible space for large events, educational and cultural activities, and official gatherings.
Good news for students
Officials want the study area ready before the final exams of 2027, when quiet places to work are in highest demand. They plan to repeat the success of the Fernando Alcala library in La Represa park, which the mayor says has proven to be very popular.
For families in San Pedro, it’s a wonderful addition coming to the area, bringing a warm, welcoming place to read, learn and meet.
