Community fundraising takes many forms across the Costa Blanca this autumn, from a charity quiz in Villamartin to a gala dinner in La Marina and one of Orihuela’s biggest annual charity events. Local residents can test their trivia knowledge, enjoy dinner and entertainment, or join thousands of people taking to the streets in support of the fight against breast cancer.

Villamartin charity quiz supports Little Pod animals

Quiz fans can put their knowledge to the test while raising money for Little Pod Association at a charity night at Drivers Bar in Villamartin on Saturday, October 17.

The fundraiser has been organised by Evie, who previously adopted two older cats from Little Pod and wanted to help with the additional expenses involved in caring for animals in need.

For €10, guests can take part in the quiz and enjoy a basket meal, with Little Pod receiving a donation from every meal sold. Food choices include sausage and chips, veggie burger and chips, burger and chips, or chicken goujons and chips.

Anyone who prefers to skip the meal can take part in the quiz for €3.

There will also be a raffle during the evening, along with prizes for the quiz winners.

Little Pod Association is a registered animal charity supporting cats and dogs in need, with fundraising helping towards the costs of rescue and ongoing care.

Drivers Bar is at 15 Calle Tomas Breton, Villamartin, Orihuela, 03189.

Orihuela turns pink for milestone charity event

Orihuela will turn pink on Sunday, October 18, when the city marks the tenth edition of its popular Corre por Mi (Run with Me), Orihuela charity run and walk for World Breast Cancer Day.

The event begins at 10:00 AM from Avenida de Espana, finishing on Avenida de Teodomiro beside the Glorieta Gabriel Miro. Participants can choose between a competitive 5km race and a non-competitive walk, with registration costing €10 and proceeds supporting the fight against cancer.

Around 2,500 to 2,800 people usually take part, making it one of Orihuela’s largest annual sporting and charity events. Organisers say almost €150,000 has been raised during previous editions.

The competitive race is limited to 600 runners, while there is no participation limit for the walk, which is open to all ages. Children’s T-shirts will also be available.

Online registration through Club Atletismo Tragamilla’s website, tragamonedas.org, closes at midday on Friday, October 16. People can also register at the Spanish Association Against Cancer office on the ground floor of Ociopia Shopping Centre on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Race numbers can be collected at La Lonja on Saturday, October 17, from 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM and 4:30 PM to 8:00 PM.
