Port d’Andratx was transformed into a vibrant celebration of community spirit and solidarity over the weekend as Balearic president Marga Prohens joined a breast cancer charity event featuring live music, handcrafted market stalls and a large crowd of supporters.

The waterfront came alive with music and activity, with outdoor bars adding to the festive atmosphere as residents and visitors gathered to support a cause that has touched countless families across Mallorca.

Organised with the support of Andratx Town Hall and the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC), the event brought together volunteers, local businesses, artists and members of the public for an afternoon dedicated to raising awareness and celebrating the importance of breast cancer research.

Live music and market stalls draw the crowds

The event offered much more than fundraising, creating a welcoming space where people could come together, enjoy live entertainment and show their support for those affected by cancer.

A large crowd gathered to enjoy the performances, while outdoor bars helped create a lively social atmosphere around the port. Market stalls selling handcrafted pieces and other goods added another attraction, giving visitors the opportunity to browse locally made items while supporting the charitable cause.

Behind the scenes, volunteers, businesses and artists contributed their time and efforts to make the gathering possible.

Prohens thanked everyone involved, as well as Andratx Town Hall and the AECC, for helping bring the community together for an event centred on music, commitment and hope.

President highlights importance of early detection

Speaking about the impact of breast cancer, Prohens acknowledged that the disease is something many people experience through their mothers, sisters, friends and colleagues.

She highlighted the role of scientific research, advances in treatment and the work of healthcare professionals in improving survival rates, while stressing the importance of breaking down the stigma that can prevent women from discussing their experiences.

The president also used the occasion to encourage women to attend screening appointments when invited and to keep up with regular health checks.

Her message came alongside figures showing increased participation in the Balearic Islands’ breast cancer early detection programme.

More than 32,200 women took part in screening during 2025, representing a 20 per cent increase compared with the previous year.

Early detection can offer more opportunities to identify the disease before it progresses and begin treatment promptly, making screening an important part of efforts to improve outcomes.

A community united behind the cause

For many families, breast cancer is not an abstract health issue but a personal experience that affects loved ones and changes lives. Events such as the gathering in Port d’Andratx offer an opportunity to show support, raise awareness and encourage more open conversations.

The combination of live entertainment, market stalls and fundraising created an atmosphere that was both celebratory and meaningful, bringing people together around a shared purpose.

Prohens urged women not to let fear or embarrassment prevent them from seeking medical advice, encouraging the community to continue challenging silence and stigma.

The message was clear: nobody should have to face breast cancer alone.

With volunteers, businesses, artists and residents joining forces, Port d’Andratx demonstrated how a local event can bring a community together while shining a spotlight on a cause affecting thousands of lives.

The gathering ended with a reminder that prevention, early diagnosis, research and solidarity all have an important role to play in the fight against breast cancer.
