A DAY of live music, food and community spirit will bring Rincon de la Victoria together this Saturday, October 24, as residents rally behind people affected by breast cancer.

Plaza Al-Andalus will host Rincon Against Breast Cancer: Together We Are Stronger, a 12-hour charity fiesta raising money for the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC).

From 11am until 11pm, visitors can enjoy performances from 12 acts, food and drinks at reasonable prices and a prize draw, while helping a cause that touches families across the Costa del Sol and beyond.

Rincon de la Victoria comes together for breast cancer awareness

Rincon de la Victoria Town Council and the AECC have organised the event following World Breast Cancer Day, which was observed on October 19. Saturday’s gathering aims to raise awareness of the disease while encouraging local people to support the AECC’s work through a fun, relaxed community celebration.

A breast cancer manifesto will be read as part of the programme, giving the day a moment of reflection among the entertainment and fundraising. All proceeds from the event will go directly to the AECC to contribute towards its work supporting people affected by cancer.

Live music takes over Plaza Al-Andalus

Music forms a huge part of the day, with local performers and groups keeping the entertainment going throughout the event.

Los Arrejuntaos will bring verdiales, Malaga’s distinctive traditional folk music, to the plaza. Mari Carmen Lopez, Yeye, Blackbetties, Ignorantes, Er Cobos, Los Rolling no son, Aires Marineros, El Jaleo, Buenos Vientos, Dime a Dozen Band and Superjeros complete the announced line-up.

Food and drinks will be available from a charity bar at what organisers describe as precios populares — in other words, accessible prices intended to encourage people to join the festivities and contribute to the fundraising.

A prize draw will give visitors another way to support the cause while enjoying the day with friends and family.

Breast cancer events across the Axarquia

Rincon’s fiesta forms part of a wider weekend of breast cancer awareness and fundraising activities across the Axarquia.

Nerja continues its own programme on Saturday at the Arches of the Balcon de Europa, where activities include Zumba, senior theatre and the creation of a pink ribbon from balloons.

Sunday, October 25, will see Nerja hold a manifesto reading and charity walk from noon, finishing at the José Bobadilla Álvarez Sports Pavilion with a paella for participants.

Torrox is also getting involved on Sunday with another edition of its March Against Cancer. Organisers hope to attract more than 1,500 participants, with activities beginning at Plaza Almedina from 10.30am and the walk scheduled to set off at 12.30pm.

For Rincon residents and the town’s international community, Saturday is a wonderful way to help: turn up, enjoy the music, share a meal or drink and contribute to a cause that continues to bring communities together.
