Hikers can discover some of the spectacular scenery of the Sierra de los Filabres on Sunday, October 25, with a guided route through Laroya. Limited to just 50 participants, the outing will take walkers through forests, traditional rural settlements and mountain landscapes before climbing to Pena de Juan Felipe at 1,556 metres.

Guided Laroya route limited to 50 walkers

Hikers have the chance to explore the Sierra de los Filabres on Sunday, October 25, when Almeria’s Municipal Sports Board organises a guided route through the municipality of Laroya.

The Sendero Laroya outing is limited to 50 participants and takes walkers through mountain scenery, holm oak and pine forests and traditional rural settlements.

Starting around Laroya, which stands at an altitude of approximately 850 metres, the route passes El Reul Alto, Fuente del Reul, El Cortijico and Loma de Liria before climbing to Pena de Juan Felipe at 1,556 metres.

Mountain climb offers wide-ranging views

From the highest point, walkers can enjoy views towards Tetica de Bacares, Sierra de Maria, La Sagra and the Almanzora Valley.

The combination of woodland, rural settlements and higher mountain terrain gives participants an opportunity to experience several different landscapes during the outing.

The excursion forms part of the Municipal Sports Board’s 2026 nature and hiking programme, which takes participants to walking routes around Almeria and neighbouring areas.

Places allocated in registration order

Places are allocated in registration order until the 50 available spaces have been filled, so anyone interested is advised to check availability promptly.

Registration can be completed through the PMD Almeria app or the Municipal Sports Board’s online service.

The limited number of spaces means walkers planning to join the October 25 route should register ahead of the event rather than relying on places remaining available closer to the date.

Walkers can also register in person

Walkers can also register in person at the Patronato Municipal de Deportes offices inside the Palacio de los Juegos Mediterraneos, Calle Santiago Martinez Cabrejas, Almeria, during normal office hours.

The Laroya excursion provides another opportunity for walkers to explore Almeria’s inland landscapes as part of the municipality’s continuing programme of organised outdoor activities.
