Hundreds of people came together in Torrevieja for a special morning of sport, solidarity and remembrance in support of the fight against breast cancer. The latest Memorial Ainara event filled the Paseo del Mar with activity while continuing a fundraising effort that has already helped secure a €20,000 grant for research into triple-negative breast cancer.
Hundreds gather for Memorial Ainara
Hundreds of people came together in Torrevieja on Sunday, October 18, for a special morning of sport, solidarity and remembrance in support of the fight against breast cancer.
The Paseo del Mar was filled with people taking part in the latest Memorial Ainara event, organised in memory of Ainara Gil, whose legacy continues to inspire the local community.
The morning featured Zumba, functional training and Pilates, with participants of all ages getting involved and helping to create a great community atmosphere by the sea.
Event supports triple-negative breast cancer research
Behind the smiles and exercise was an important cause. Memorial Ainara has been raising funds to support research into triple-negative breast cancer, an aggressive form of the disease.
Earlier this month, that hard work resulted in a €20,000 research grant, presented at the Spanish Society of Medical Oncology congress in Madrid.
The grant, created in Ainara’s memory, will support research being carried out at Vall d’Hebron University Hospital in Barcelona.
The award represents an important result from the fundraising and awareness work carried out in Ainara’s name, turning the community’s continued support into direct help for medical research.
Ainara’s memory continues to inspire Torrevieja
Sunday’s event showed that the community’s support is showing no signs of slowing down.
For Ainara’s family and everyone involved with the memorial, it was another reminder of how one person’s memory can continue to make a difference.
Bringing hundreds of people together for exercise, remembrance and a shared cause, the event combined community spirit with the continuing effort to support breast cancer research.
The message behind the day summed it up beautifully: “You don’t know how many people you illuminate in silence… You keep shining.”
