Subida del Marmol reaches 50th edition
Macael will swap marble for motors this weekend as one of Almeria’s best-known hill climbs celebrates its 50th edition.
The Subida del Marmol takes place from Friday, October 23 to Sunday, October 25, bringing more than 130 competitors to the town.
The event is a hill climb, with drivers racing individually against the clock along a closed uphill road rather than competing side by side.
This format puts the emphasis on each driver’s individual performance, with competitors attempting to record the quickest time on the course.
Touring cars and Car Cross join action
This year’s entry includes touring cars, single-seaters and Car Cross vehicles, with a drift demonstration also planned as part of the weekend.
A total of 132 competitors have signed up, with organisers saying additional drivers have been placed on a reserve list.
The large entry means spectators can expect to see a broad variety of vehicles taking part as the event celebrates its half-century.
Race counts towards Andalucian championship
The event counts towards the Andalucian Mountain Championship as well as the provincial competition and Car Cross Cup.
Its place within the championship calendar adds a competitive edge to the anniversary weekend, with drivers chasing results as well as taking part in the milestone edition.
Spectators will also be able to get a closer look at the vehicles in the lower part of Macael, where the cars will be gathered after passing their technical checks.
Three days of motorsport come to Macael
The Subida del Marmol has become a long-running fixture on the province’s motorsport calendar.
This weekend’s event marks its 50th edition, with racing and activities taking place across three days.
The combination of championship competition, a large field of drivers and the planned drift demonstration will put motorsport firmly in the spotlight in Macael from October 23 to 25.
