International Christian Assembly concert in Torrevieja

MORE than 600 people attended the first ever concert by former Electric Light Orchestra guitarist Dave Scott-Morgan and his wife Mandy.

The evening was a free concert at the Municipal Theatre in Torrevieja and the pre-publicity made it clear that it was an evening exploring Dave’s time with the band, his hitting a rock-bottom low in his life and becoming a born-again Christian, which turned his life around.

Sadly, more than 100 people walked out when he began singing some religious songs he had composed himself. Some people even walked out while he was talking to the audience. But the vast majority stayed and enjoyed an entertaining and enlightening evening.

During the second half there was a question and answer session and some members of the audience asked what they felt about people walking out. “Some people receive religion as a fragrance to be enjoyed while some find it a bad smell,” Mandy responded.

The evening was organised by the Torrevieja-based International Christian Assembly, a church offering services both in English and Spanish and the concert, which was part of its outreach programme, was the second held.

“Overall it was a successful and most enjoyable evening and was interesting to hear how Dave succeeded in turning his life around when he found God,” said a spokes-person for the church.

“It was unfortunate that so many people decided to walk out, but they are the losers. They have to ask themselves what, exactly, it is they were rejecting and whether, by rejecting it they are damaging their lives.”
