Charge-free: AP-7 viaduct over the River Algar
CALLS have gone out to make the AP-7 toll road free .
The fastest and most practical link with Alicante, Valencia and the airport, should be free to all motorists, two La Marina mayors claim.
Benissa’s mayor Juan Bautista Rosello is convinced the motorway should be free. “We want the tolls removed,” he said. “Forty years is more than enough.”
And Benidorm mayor Augustin Navarro said it is essential for a tourist resort to be able to count on excellent communications.
“But I doubt this is the moment to remove tolls as there is no budget for the road’s upkeep,” he admitted.
Aumar’s concession on the AP-7 toll road still has seven years to run.
The road has paid for itself, both mayors claimed. The demand to make the toll roads free appears the least of the Generalitat’s concerns. The current state of its finances would make the additional expense “inadmissible,” according to the regional government.
