Potato harvest early due to mild weather
Mild temperatures, plenty of sun and almost no frosts have helped the produce to grow healthy and strong, farmers say.
They expect to harvest some 20,000 tonnes of novella variety potatoes, to be sold mainly in the British, Dutch and Danish markets.
Some export companies have claimed to be “thrilled” with this harvesting season, although they recognise this weather is unusual for this time of the year.
In fact, only two years ago cold weather and winds seriously damaged the harvesting, with 33 per cent of potato crops destroyed.
