Over 200 celebrities and public figures have rallied in support of the ‘no’ vote for next month’s referendum on Scottish independence.
A variety of celebs, from sport, literature, television and the arts have called on the people of Scotland to vote ‘no’ by signing an open letter released on Thursday.
Mick Jagger, Tom Daley and Bruce Forsyth are among those who have asked Scots to remember the ‘bonds’ of citizenship that link them to their countrymen over the border.
The full letter, signed mainly by English celebrities, lists the support of 44 BAFTA winners, 18 gold medal athletes, and even a Nobel Prize winner, and reads: “We want to let you know how very much we value our bonds of citizenship with you, and to express our hope that you will vote to renew them.
“What unites us is much greater than what divides us. Let’s stay together.”
Dan Snow and Tom Holland, two well-known TV historians, organised the publication of the letter, which Snow will now take on a tour of the country, urging fellow UK citizens to sign up.
Snow commented: “I feel passionately about Britain and everything we have achieved together throughout our long shared history across these islands. I don’t have a vote in the Scottish referendum but I certainly have a view and I really hope that our shared country stays together.”
The campaign got going on Thursday morning, where the letter was presented by Snow to the public from City Hall, London, together with fellow presenters Ben Fogle and June Sarpong.
