A PASSENGER travelling in a car has lost an arm in an accident on the road between Ibiza town and San Antonio.
The 28-year-old man had decided to stick his arm out of the car’s passenger window whilst the car was travelling too close to some railings along the side of the road.
The man’s arm hit the fence, and was severed at the elbow. The unfortunate man was taken by ambulance to Can Misses hospital, but such was the severity of his injury that he was promptly moved to Palma’s Son Espases hospital by way of a Guardia Civil helicopter.
The severed limb was recovered several kilometres along the road from the site of the accident, which took place at around 11.35pm Wednesday evening.
The limb was also delivered by helicopter to Son Espases in an attempt to re-attach it, but in the end these attempts proved unsuccessful.
