THE profitability of hotel rooms in Palma was the third highest of the Spanish urban tourist destinations in 2014, only beaten by Barcelona and San Sebastian.
It registered an 11.4 per cent increase in comparison with the year before, while the employment rate within this industry grew by 1.7 per cent.
The data collected by Exceltur (Alliance for Tourism Excellence), in a report that shows that the average revenue per hotel room in Palma was €58.2, 17.1 per cent higher than the rest of tourism destinations analysed.
However, the 22,316 workers of the hotel industry registered in 2014 only increased half as much as the national average.
Amongst the most profitable municipalities are Sant Josep, Muro, Santa Eulalia and Ciutadella.
