THE Guardia Civil is investigating the deaths of an elderly couple found dead on a sofa in their Jalon villa at 4.15pm on Sunday.

The bodies of two people, an elderly man and woman both aged 77, were discovered after neighbours, who usually dined with the couple on Sunday but were unable to contact them, alerted security forces.

Officers of the Guardia Civil and the National Police found the victims with gunshot wounds and shell casings scattered on the floor. There were no signs of a forced entry or theft, leading to early enquiries into a possible history of domestic conflict. However, an official cause of the deaths has not as yet been confirmed.

The couple had lived in the Marina Alta for some years and had two sons

The case has been assigned to Denia’s Court No 3 with reporting restrictions in place pending further notice.
