SCHOOLCHILDREN in Motril took part in special activities this week to celebrate World Book Day.
Activities were laid on by the council in various parts of town including Plaza España, Avenida San Agustin and the municipal market.
Culture councillor Elena Vallejo explained: “World Book Day is a very special day for literature and the council wanted to use it to encourage reading via activities aimed at local children. We think the youngest members of the family need to get into the habit from an early age to help them seek knowledge through books in the future and reach their academic goals.”
Accompanied by parents and teachers, the children joined in reading-themed games and activities before visiting the local market to discover what goes on inside the traditional building.
After watching customers buy fresh, local produce, the children were treated to a story-telling session, which a number of the market stallholders offered to join in with.
