JAVEA residents John and Liz Langley had to be evacuated from their Montgo home last year when fire broke out.
The blaze swept through nearly 450 hectares of the Montgo National Park, close to their property, on September 11. Returning from holiday the day the fire started, they were forced to spend two days away from their villa.
John and Liz decided to take matters into their own hands and went to Barcelona to buy a Wick 100G pump with a 3.5-metre intake pipe to place in a swimming pool. It can deliver water to around 90 metres from the source.
John said: “We have the utmost respect for the ‘bomberos’ (firefighters) but there are not enough of them. This way we can protect our own property and perhaps others close by. It can deliver 267 litres per minute.”
