Adapted from JK Rowling’s post-Potter novel, the story follows the intense relationships and cut-throat community politics of a small English town, where prejudice rules and tragedy lurks in the idyllic cobbled streets. Although the story feels squeezed into the three-part series, made jointly by HBO and the BBC, it has a top drawer cast with great performances.
