EXTRA medical services will be laid on for the summer in the Elche area, particularly at busy coastal destinations, the health department has announced. In Santa Pola an extra paediatrician, two doctors and three nurses will be on hand to deal with emergencies in July and August, and the health centre’s A&E department will be open all day.Tabarca, Varadero and Casa del Mar health centres will also be staffed for the summer, and Arenales del Sol, which opens in the mornings only during winter months, will also be providing care in the afternoons. The Playa Lisa health centre will have a doctor and a nurse on morning and afternoon shifts, and Gran Alacant centre will also be open for both shifts.La Marina will continue with its usual hours, but an extra doctor will be in place for August.Meanwhile at time of going to press it remained unclear how arguments over ambulances would be resolved, as while in recent years one of Elche’s two ambulances has been sent to Santa Pola in July and August there have been complaints this leaves Elche itself short.
