MORE than 205,000 lottery tickets with a face value of €350,000 have been confiscated in Malaga in the biggest police operation against illegal lotteries ever carried out in the province and one of the biggest in Spain.Investigations into an organisation with headquarters in Malaga city began in January, Junta de Andalucia regional government delegate Jose Luis Ruiz Espejo explained, which eventually led to the premises being searched on July 4 and tickets and documentation confiscated. The National Police force unit linked to the Junta had in fact had its sights on the group for longer, and it had recently been issued a €90,000 fine for similar activities, the delegate said. The organisers may face three separate charges as they were not authorised to run a lottery, paid no taxes and gave no guarantee that prizes would be paid out.
