INVESTIGATIONS into an abandoned and damaged helicopter discovered near Nijar will not go any further. As no drugs were found, the judge in charge of the enquiry has shelved the case.Discovering the large, yellow helicopter in Fernan Perez should have been the starting point for an investigation that revealed who was involved, said Alejandra Dodero.Instead there were no leads apart from the reaction of sniffer dogs which indicated that cannabis had at some stage been present.Although damaged while landing in the Fernan Perez field, the helicopter was not involved in an accident and had issued no request for help. Neither were there visible signs that the pilot or the aircraft’s occupants were injured.Where the helicopter had come from, where it was bound and whether it was dropping off or picking up a cargo of drugs remains a mystery. It did not take off from Almeria’s El Alquian airport and no flight plan was submitted, airports authority AENA confirmed.
